Make Your Freelance Writing Career Come True with these 2 Easy Steps

It might have already happened.  If it hasn't chances are that it will.  You tell someone, usually very close to you, that you are going to start working from home.  You're going to be a Freelance Writer!

You're excited and you're waiting for the, "Oh, that's a great idea!"  but instead you just get the "Oh?

Don't worry.  It's not you or your choice of careers.  Freelance writing can actually be very profitable for the well organized, passionate writer.   Especially with the little overhead that comes with the business.  And with the boom in the need of good content writers these days there is plenty of work.  No, the problem is not you.  The problem is that people don't understand what exactly a freelance writer does.

So here are 2 simple ways to immediately turn the simple "oh" into a "oh, that's actually working, is it?"  Sure it isn't the praise that you're looking for but it will come.

Look Official, Act Professional

You don't need a 12 foot, 18th century, mahogany desk to be a writer.  But you do need a space.  Be it a cheap deco desk from a department store or a coffee table.  The most important thing is that it has a way to keep distractions to a minimum.  A separate room and a door work great!
Set up a website promoting your business and a blog to show off your work and attract customers.  Free or paid blogs are fine.  Just have something.  It should be professional and represent you.  Join forums and speak the language.  If you don't know it yet then just keep reading them.  You'll pick it up!
Always, always produce the best content you can.  Never get chintzy with the quality.  Not even for sake of deadlines.  Either miss the deadline and beg for forgiveness or plan better.  This will follow you forever.

Legitimize Your Choice Immediately

Join writing sites that pay. It doesn't matter if they are residual gainers or if the site pays pennies (or less) per word.  Work your tail off and get a respectable payment.  Keep doing it.  Find other sites and join them.  Rise in their rankings!  Earn more money!  Invade Rome from the north and drive the hordes into the sea!  Ooops.  Sorry.  The passion runneth over sometimes.
There is a list of some writing sites that you may look into on my blog. Once you start making money tell people.  If you choose to tell them how much, that's cool; if you don't, whatever.  Just make sure they know you are actually doing it!  In time you'll acquire private clients, start marketing your brand and the people will admire.  Oh, yes, they will admire!

Feel free to add other sites to help other readers and any comments that you have about them.  Anyone having a particularly hard time "selling" a significant other that Freelance Writing can work?  Let us know!
